Wine Intensive

This is a 2-day intensive version of our 4-Week Wine Course

Designed for the wine enthusiast who does not have four free evenings to commit, this course covers all the material presented in TW's 4-Week Wine Course in a weekend. There is a morning and an evening session on both Saturday and Sunday with a lunch break in between.

What you study during the 2-Day Intensive Wine Course

  • Wine tasting and evaluation techniques, buying, storing and ordering wine, restaurant wine etiquette, concepts of appellation and terroir.
  • Structural characteristics and flavor profiles of the major grape varieties listed in the syllabus and their nuances across leading wine regions.
  • The differences the same grape variety exhibits across regions, and the climate, topography, and winemaking traditions of each major region.

What you gain after you complete the 2-Day Intensive Wine Course

  • Ability to describe the taste profile of major wines simply by their labels or names.
  • Ability to pin down the grape varieties or appellations that will match a dish.
  • Ability to communicate about a wine more effectively (what you like or don’t like).
  • Ability to ask questions at a restaurant or at a store, that will take you to an exciting new wine.
  • Ability to set up well-informed and well-rounded tastings among friends and tasting groups.
  • Confidence in your skills when you get handed the wine list in a restaurant, and the ability to find an appropriate wine that you are comfortable in almost any wine list.
  • Ability to buy better wines at the same prices as before, and have stories behind the wines you take as gifts.
  • More enjoyment out of wine and a faster learning process even after you finish the course.
  • Acquiring or further improving a life-time hobby.

Materials

  • 8-10 wines to be tasted at each session served with Artisanal cheeses and crackers
  • Class note pack
  • Maps
  • List of wine tasting terms

  • Mock menus to be paired with wines

Your input while taking the 2-Day Intensive Wine Course

Just like learning anything else, the knowledge of wine also requires some effort on the student’s part.  A good program gives you a road map so that you learn the essential building blocks first and the course of your knowledge follows a natural and enjoyable pattern.  In designing this program, we kept in mind a perfect balance between the amount of information and the time you get to put this information into practice.  If you join us with the intention to allocate some study time and a mind-set to participate in class, you will utilize this course to its full potential.

What makes TW’s Wine Courses a solid and real learning experience?

  • Small classes and individual attention
  • Carefully chosen wines to demonstrate key points
  • Information provided in the form that is easiest to retain and build on
  • Ample practice opportunities
  • Familiarity with the names of major producers
  • Sessions are scheduled for two hour periods, however they end only when you are finished with your questions.
  • If you miss a session you can always make it up in the subsequent run of the course.
